狰(Zhēng) - 山海经 (Classic of Mountains and Seas)

According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas, Zhēng lives on Zhang’e Mountain which has no grass and trees. Zhēng is described looking similar to a red leopard, having five tails and a single horn, said to be ferocious and brutal, a sound like the striking of stones 🐆 According to legend, Zhēng is able to transform into a human form and possesses magical powers, including the ability to control the weather and bring about earthquakes. Although Zhēng is a mysterious and dangerous creature, it holds a unique position and symbolic significance in traditional Chinese culture. In ancient culture, Zhēng was often used as a symbol of power and ability, as well as given a protective and auspicious meaning, revered as a divine beast.
