Hao Zhi | The Classic of Mountains and Seas

25th illustration of 山海经 (The Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 豪彘 (Háo Zhì)
🦔🐖As stated in The Classic of Western Mountains: In 竹山/Zhú Mountain (literally "竹" means bamboo), where there are many trees and iron mines. There lived a beast resembling a pig with white fur, as large as a hairpin with black tips, which can be used as weapons for defense or to catch prey. The beast called Hao Zhi.
🦔🐖In ancient Chinese culture, Hao Zhi was revered as a mythical beast and a symbol of auspiciousness. It described in the Classic of Mountains and Seas bears a striking resemblance to the modern-day porcupine.
🦔🐖 Historically, the research on the specific location of Zhú Mountain has gone through different periods. Combined with the records of 《汉书》(The Book of Han), 《水经注》(The Annotations on the Waterway Classic) and 《太平寰宇记》(The Taiping Huanyu Ji), it was finally drawn a hypothesis that the geographical location was in Jianyuling, the southeast of Weinan city.
